2021 Prayer Guide
What does it take to reach every people and nation with the Gospel?
It takes compassion.
It takes persistence.
But most of all, it takes prayer.
Roughly 17,000 indigenous people groups exist in the world, each with their own language, culture, and religion. Many reside in areas that Western missionaries can’t access. To reach them, only one option remains: equip local churches to evangelize them.
As the Global Church Developer, that’s what we do. As an ICM supporter, that’s what you do. And those efforts are helping indigenous churches to flourish among people groups all over the world.
This calendar highlights some of those groups. Please take time each month to pray for them as our work continues. Your prayers can remove the obstacles to all nations hearing the Good News. Share
All Scripture references come from the New Living Translation (NLT).
People Groups Within Reach
Karen refers to multiple tribes of Myanmar origin whose languages stem from the Sino- Tibetan language family. Political persecution in the 1980s drove several Karen tribes to seek refuge across the Thailand border, where many live as refugees to this day. The Karen are considered “hill folk,” preferring to reside in the mountainous highlands. They make their living through subsistence rice farming and welcome tourists to experience their culture.
The S’gaw Karen of Thailand have readily embraced the Gospel—in a region where many people resist evangelism. The Thailand Karen Baptist Convention, an ICM partner, is establishing healthy churches among the Karen and training them to share the Gospel with native Thais. Share
Journal Prompt of the month
Reflect on the Karen’s eagerness to embrace the Gospel. How does your zeal for the Lord manifest in your life? What abilities has He given you through the Spirit? How can you use those abilities to strengthen the Body of Christ?
